B318/Holzkirchen: BMW driver notices the end of the traffic jam too late

Because a woman from Holzkirchner noticed the end of the traffic jam too late, she crashed her car into the end of the traffic jam on Thursday on the B318 just before the motorway.

Another woman was injured.

Holzkirchen – As reported by the Holzkirchen police, there was a traffic accident on Thursday around 5:10 p.m. on the B318 in the direction of the A8 just before the Fichtholz exit, in which a woman was injured.

According to the police report, a woman from Holzkirchen drove her BMW along the B318 near Holzkirchen in the direction of the Autobahn.

Shortly before the Fichtholz exit, the 30-year-old wanted to switch from the right to the left lane.

However, she overlooked the fact that traffic was backing up to Fichtholz due to the construction site on the motorway bridge.

When she recognized the traffic jam, it was too late: she tried to cancel the lane change and avoid a 71-year-old woman from Munich who was standing in the left lane in a traffic jam.

But she couldn't do that anymore.

BMW crashes into traffic jam

The woman from Holzkirchner collided with her left vehicle front with the right rear of the Alfa.

After the collision, the BMW also crashed into the right-hand guardrail as a result of the evasive manoeuvre.

There the car came to a stop.

According to the police report, the 30-year-old was unharmed, but the 71-year-old in the Alfa suffered minor injuries.

The woman suffered whiplash.

Other people were not endangered.

The BMW and the Alfa were no longer roadworthy after the accident and had to be towed away.

The police estimate the total damage to property at around 25,000 euros.

Increased attention required due to major construction site

In view of the ongoing work on the new bridge over the A8 - part one of the demolition of the old bridge will take place this weekend - the police are asking for increased attention.

Due to the construction work, there will be an increased traffic volume at the Holzkirchen junction "probably by the end of 2023, with traffic routing being changed at intervals".

And with it unexpected traffic congestion.
