Omikron is driving up the number of corona infections in Bavaria.
To ensure that public life does not collapse, new quarantine rules will apply from Saturday.
Munich – The quarantine rules will be less strict from Saturday, but much more complicated.
So that the omicron wave, which is currently picking up speed in Bavaria, does not completely paralyze public life and the economy, new, softer quarantine rules for people infected with corona and contact persons will apply in Bavaria from Saturday (January 15).
The Bavarian cabinet decided this during the week.
The Bundestag passed the legal framework for this on Thursday, and the Bundesrat also approved it on Friday.
New corona rules for quarantine and isolation in Bavaria: there is great confusion
However, the confusion is great.
Hardly surprising given the many exceptions and special rules.
Depending on the vaccination status, type of test and, in some cases, profession, different rules apply.
By the end of the week, the district offices responsible for quarantine enforcement in Bavaria, for example in Miesbach in Upper Bavaria, were literally bombarded with inquiries.
We give an overview of what will apply from Saturday.
In brief: Boosted contact persons no longer have to be in quarantine, for infected people the isolation is shortened.
However, there are a number of additions, exceptions and tightenings.
First to the quarantine for contacts:
Corona rules in Bavaria: These contacts no longer have to be in quarantine
Contact persons no longer have to be in quarantine in Bavaria if they...
...have recently had a second vaccination (i.e. have protection equivalent to the booster, no more than three months ago),
...have recently recovered (maximum three months ago),
...have been vaccinated twice after recovery
...or have recovered after a second vaccination.
New corona rules in Bavaria: quarantine and isolation are becoming shorter
The same applies to all other contact persons as to infected people.
Both groups generally have to be in quarantine for ten days, but you can shorten this to seven days with a negative test.
It doesn't matter whether it is a PCR test or a rapid antigen test.
However, the prerequisite for free testing is that you have been symptom-free for 48 hours on the seventh day.
There are also some exceptions to the new isolation and quarantine rules.
Quarantine rules for contact persons and corona infected people in Bavaria - the exceptions:
Pupils and children who attend daycare centers or childminders can take a free test after five days (provided they are symptom-free).
For employees in "vulnerable facilities" such as clinics and old people's homes, a PCR test is mandatory after seven days for free testing - or negative rapid tests must be presented every day for five days before starting work.
Anyone who still has symptoms at the end of the isolation or has tested positive for Corona again within the last 72 hours cannot simply end the quarantine, but must contact their health department.
