A document from the Ministry of Construction and Housing shows that while 30,000 people are waiting to receive public housing - there are 163 vacant apartments that have not yet been inhabited, from north to south • Reason: "

The queue for public housing in Israel is one of the worst in the Western world.

Morning News We hear about families waiting to receive public housing to which they are entitled - but "Real Estate Today" reveals that according to a report by the Ministry of Housing, there are actually 163 vacant apartments intended for the needy and uninhabited population, from Kiryat Shmona and Nof Galil to Dimona Netivot And Yeruham.

40 of them in the city of Be'er Sheva only.

It is important to emphasize that these are residential apartments, in urban localities, that are owned by the ministry or owned by it, and are available for more than three months under the management of Halamish, Amigur, Amidar and Perzot and Shikmona companies.

For example, the report shows that in Dimona there are 49 unoccupied reporting apartments, in Be'er Sheva - 40, in Yeruham - 23 and in Mitzpe Ramon - 13. The report also shows that most unoccupied apartments (80) have 3 rooms. 55 apartments. Empty are 2-room apartments. The rest of the apartments (28 in total) are divided between one room (7) and 3.5 to 5 rooms.

"Do not burden the local authority"

A digging into the depths of the document reveals that the reason why the apartments are unused and without populating the families who need it - is no less outrageous.

According to a document from the Ministry of Housing, it was decided that in socio-economic rankings in clusters 5-1 there would be a defined quota for the absorption of tenants, so as not to burden the local authority.

This means that although there may be vacant apartments in these localities, it will not be possible to house eligible people who are not residents of the locality.

An examination of the Knesset's Research and Information Center shows that within a decade the number of people waiting for public housing has doubled to about 30,000, including old social needs and new immigrants.

The wait can be more than 10 years.

As reported in "Real Estate Today", the state intends to purchase 1,700 apartments for those eligible.

The report from the Ministry of Housing also shows that the number of eligible people waiting to receive an apartment currently stands at 3,571 people. In addition, there are 24,073 eligible people from the Ministry of Absorption and Immigrants who are also waiting to receive an apartment, most of them elderly people without means.

Public activist Alex Tanzer, who represents many elderly immigrants waiting for public housing, commented on the exposure: "The country is dumbfounded. Immigrants and 450 disabled immigrants. "

The Ministry of Construction and Housing responded: "These are apartments that are offered but remain without demand.

Anyone on the waiting list can enter these apartments. '
