Former Austrian President Heinz Fischer stressed that the military presence of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization "NATO" on the Russian borders does not support stability in the region, describing the Ukrainian crisis file as very sensitive.

In an interview with the online newspaper "Fair Observer", Fischer said, commenting on the recent tensions between Russia and NATO: NATO weapons on the border with Russia do not support peace, likening the current crisis between Russia and the West to the Cuban missile crisis in 1962.

Relations between Russia and NATO have recently been tense due to the increased presence of the military alliance near the Russian borders, which Moscow considers a violation of the basic document of relations with the alliance.

Regarding the nuclear agreement with Iran, Fischer described the US withdrawal from the agreement as one of the wrong decisions taken by former US President Donald Trump.

In May 2018, Trump announced his country's withdrawal from the nuclear agreement between Iran and the Five Plus One Group and the reinstatement of sanctions against Tehran, in defiance of the will of the international community and in violation of international resolutions in this regard.
