The mayor indicated that the 700,000 euros would be used to maintain the maintenance of the new multipurpose hall, the roads as well as the maintenance of the tombs of the village, according to the last wishes of Simone Jouniaux.
To perpetuate the memory of its generous benefactress, the village library will henceforth bear her name.
If the extent of this legacy is unprecedented in Colleret, other municipalities in Avesnois have already benefited from several donations from residents estimated at several hundred thousand euros, reports La Voix du Nord.
Almost a year ago, in February 2021, the mayor of the town of Berlaimont had learned that a resident had donated 360,000 euros to the village while in Trélon, the Ténart house, chef-d' work of art deco, had been bequeathed to the municipality in 1999.
