The government gazetted today (14th) that Leung Kam-wai was sentenced to 9 months in prison and lost his district council seat under the District Councils Ordinance, and his seat has been vacant since November 12th last year.


According to the "District Councils Ordinance", once a district councillor is convicted and sentenced to more than 3 months in prison, and he cannot choose to replace it with a fine, he will be disqualified as an elected member.

Liang Jinwei was accused of inciting to participate in an unauthorized assembly at the June 4th party last year. He pleaded guilty before the trial with former stake chairman Li Zhuoren, secretary Cai Yaochang, Standing Committee member Liang Yaozhong and former Democratic Party chairman Hu Zhiwei. Liang was eventually sentenced to 9 months in prison.

In addition, five stake members, including Liang Jinwei, refused to hand over information to the police’s National Security Department’s request last year and were charged with “not complying with the notification requirement to provide information”. Liang Jinwei pleaded guilty at the West Kowloon Magistrates’ Court in December last year and was sentenced to imprisonment 3 months, of which one month will be executed at the same time as the "June 4th Assembled Case", that is, two months in prison, with a total sentence of 11 months.
