INTERVIEW – In Paris, in the 16th arrondissement, the Janson-de-Sailly high school is one of the best preparatory schools for the Grandes Ecoles. Patrick Fournié, its headmaster, explains the reasons for this success.

- How many applications did you receive last year?

In 2021, we received 34,000 applications for 672 places in the first year.

The success of our preparatory classes is linked to the history and well-established reputation of our establishment which, for many decades, has had a fine track record to its credit.

It is a beautiful place, located in the 16th arrondissement, where more than 1,200 students rub shoulders.

This year, we are going to exceed 1,300. Here, there are about a hundred high-level professors, all of whom are accredited and who, for the vast majority, are also university doctors.

How do you select your students?

We are looking for excellent students with a balanced and homogeneous background.

School results come into play and must be very good in the important disciplines of the requested preparatory class.

But the position of the student in the class and the level of the class are also taken into account...
