The air is slowly getting thin for Postbank customers in the district of Ebersberg.

After Grafing, Ebersberg is also affected by a closure.

The mayor is stunned.

Update, January 14, 2022:

Mayor Ulrich Proske is also angry that the district town of Ebersberg has not had a postal bank since the turn of the year.

In an armored letter to the financial institution, which is also available to EZ, he now vented his anger in detail.

Branch deaths at postal banks in the district of Ebersberg: the mayor is angry

"It can't be that I, a mayor, have to stand up for YOUR customers so that YOUR customers can do the necessary banking," writes Proske. The mayor calls it “incredible” that customers would now have to drive to Baldham, where the next full-service branch is located, which is often affected by staff-related closures, and rages: “This situation should not be acceptable for your company, unless your customers are you doesn't matter at all."

It is questionable whether Proske's final request for prospects for Ebersberger Postbank customers will be fulfilled.

When EZ reported at the beginning of December that the post office in E-EinZ was shutting down banking services (

see below

), the bank referred to economic reasons - as was the case in neighboring Grafing, where Postbank will soon be closing its branch.

By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our new, regular Ebersberg newsletter.

Ebersberg/district

– For Postbank customers in the district of Ebersberg, the somewhat hackneyed wisdom applies: misfortune rarely comes alone.

Not only will the branch in Grafing close its doors in the coming year, the post office in Ebersberg will also discontinue its financial services.

The yellow bank has now confirmed this to EZ – just a few days ago it had referred customers from Grafing, who would soon have no branches, to the Ebersberg shopping center in the future.

It even ends earlier there: From the turn of the year, effective date January 3, 2022, services such as cash deposits and withdrawals will be passé in the stationery in the E-EinZ.

Postbank in Ebersberg: No economic operation for financial services in the post office

“The effort has to be in balance with the income.

That's why we measure the profitability of our offer regularly," explains the Postbank spokesman.

"In some cases, this check leads to the conclusion that banking services can no longer be offered in a certain branch or at a location in an economically sustainable manner." This is also the case in Ebersberg.

Withdraw money at the supermarket, go to Baldham for advice

As with the upcoming Grafinger branch closure, Postbank refers to the cooperation with supermarkets in the "cashback process": Postbank customers in Ebersberg can withdraw cash free of charge from Rewe, Lidl and Aldi if they pay for their purchases by card. For real branch services such as credit advice, after the closure in Grafing in the course of 2022, they will have to drive to Baldham on Neue Poststraße - to the branch that has repeatedly made a name for itself with downtime due to staff shortages.

In view of the surprise in Ebersberg,

EZ

is also checking individually how the other partner branches in the district are doing, those post offices in Glonn, Kirchseeon, Poing and Anzing, which also offer Postbank services.

"No changes to the location or the range of products and services are currently planned at any of these locations," says the Postbank spokesman.

"Nevertheless, Postbank, like other institutes, will continue to examine the profitability of its sales network based on customer behavior and, where necessary, make further adjustments."
