LONDON - Britain's Prince Andrew is relinquishing his military titles and patronage after an abuse lawsuit against him was dismissed in the United States.

This was announced by Buckingham Palace in London on Thursday evening.

The statement said: "With the Queen's approval, all military titles and royal patronage of the Duke of York will return to the Queen." The background to this step is likely to be the ongoing abuse lawsuit against the British Queen's son.

The allegations against Prince Andrew weigh heavily.

The royal suffered the next setback in this matter on Wednesday, when a court in New York threw out an attempt to dismiss the lawsuit.

The queen scion will therefore probably have to answer in court.

Prince Andrew has always denied the allegations against him.

As soon as the allegations became known, he resigned from the public duties that he would have to fulfill in his role as a member of the royal family.

However, he initially kept his military titles - until now.
