The discussions of the Special Representative of the Russian President for the Middle East and African Countries, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov, with the Special Coordinator for Syria at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Stefano Ravanian in Moscow today focused on the importance of concerted international efforts in order to advance the political process in Syria in implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2254.
In a statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry, attention was given to the course of the meeting, in particular to the tasks of rebuilding Syria after the dissolution and expediting the overcoming of the difficult situation in the economic, social and humanitarian fields.
The Russian statement said that the Russian President's special envoy to Syria, Alexander Lavrentiev, and the Italian ambassador in Moscow participated in the meeting.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin had discussed in a phone call yesterday with the United Nations Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen the situation in Syria and ways to solve the crisis politically through the Syrians alone in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution No. 2254.
