The visits of exchanged ministerial delegations between Syria and Iran reflect the size of the bilateral strategic cooperation relations that have existed between the two countries for decades, and which are constantly developing for the benefit of the two peoples.

The last of those visits was the visit of the Iranian Minister of Roads and City Building, Rostam Qasemi, this week to Damascus, where he held talks with senior officials focused on ways to enhance cooperation, economic relations and trade exchange, activating the terms of the agreements signed between the two sides, and ways to develop the agreed-upon business, especially in the field of triple rail linkage for passenger transport. And goods between Syria, Iraq and Iran and vice versa, in addition to ways of expanding the fields of bilateral work in the public and private sectors and encouraging joint investments with the aim of giving a new impetus to trade and economic ties.

This visit was preceded by the visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Faisal Miqdad, to Tehran last month, where he held in-depth talks with Iranian officials.

Syrian-Iranian relations are old and rooted and based on strategic cooperation, support and solidarity for more than forty years. Their first pillars were laid by the two late founding President Hafez al-Assad and Imam Ayatollah Khomeini. During the eighties and nineties of the last century, the two countries stood in one trench against the Zionist and American schemes hostile to the region and the interests of its peoples.

Since the beginning of the crisis in Syria in 2011, Iran has fully supported Syria, supported it politically and economically, and expressed its support for a solution by peaceful means, as Tehran participated in conferences

The international community with the aim of finding a political solution was one of the guarantor countries of the Astana process since its inception in 2017. It also provided great economic support to Syria through the supply of oil derivatives, foodstuffs, medicines, and other things through the credit line. In addition, it provided many advisers who came to provide support to the forces of the Syrian Arab Army In its war against terrorist organizations.

There is no doubt that the observer of the course of Syrian-Iranian relations over the past decades is certain that they will continue, develop and be strengthened in various fields in the future until the two countries achieve their goals of victory over enemies and achieve the interest of their peoples in progress and prosperity.
