With the start of the new year, budget deliberations have also begun in the city.

The first item on the agenda of the Main and Finance Committee was the result budget.

Fürstenfeldbruck – It turns out better than last year initially suggested.

Instead of an originally estimated deficit of around five million euros, the city only recorded a minus of 980,000 euros.

"If you see the deficit we're coming from, then the administration has done a good job," said Mayor Erich Raff.

The reasons for the unexpectedly positive result are an increase of five million euros compared to the planning for trade tax income, a lower district levy and one million euros more income from investment income.

As a result, the city was able to repay debts amounting to 3.3 million euros - the new level of debt is 17.2 million euros - and dispense with loans that had already been planned.

But despite all the joy about the additional income, there is still a small minus in the end.

“It is not the purpose of a budget to plan a deficit in advance,” warned Michael Piscitelli (CSU) and Raff also raised concerns: “It will not work to constantly live off your savings.” In addition, the prospects for the coming years would be the same no better, according to the mayor.

Alexa Zierl (ÖDP) drew a completely different conclusion from the figures in the earnings budget. She says: "Every time we spend less money than planned." In recent years, spending has always leveled off at around eleven million euros. Estimated were between 14 and 16 million euros.

According to Zierl, a lot can be achieved with the difference – after four years, according to her striking calculation, an ice rink would be financed. It's not that easy, said finance officer Klaus Wollenberg (FDP). However, he agreed with Zierl that there was a lot of room in the budget – so there was a small financial buffer. Because the Brucker household is divided up very delicately, there are also many small buffers, which in turn add up to a considerable amount. The new Treasurer Marcus Eckert explained that this problem would be tackled in the future by merging cost centers.

But even then one should not fall for the fallacy that there would be much more money, explained Jan Halbauer (Greens).

The city is putting off expensive investments such as the expansion of the Philip Weiss School.

This is the only way to achieve a balanced budget.

The consultations will continue in February with the financial budget.

The city council will decide at its meeting on February 22nd.
