They publish videos of the fatal police shooting of a Latino who was causing damage with a backhoe in New Jersey

Joshua González caused damage to vehicles and homes with his vehicle until, after 30 minutes trying to stop him, an agent decided to shoot him and ended his life.


The New Jersey Attorney General's Office released a series of pieces of evidence on Thursday showing the moment when police shot a Hispanic man identified as Joshua Gonzalez during a violent incident on December 18. 

The Prosecutor's Office released the transcript of two calls to the 911 emergency telephone number, videos of four body cameras of agents, and recordings of cell phones and security cameras of homes in the city of Vineland, all at the request of the Office of Public Integrity and Accountability (OPIA).

According to investigators, police officers from Vineland (located south of Philadelphia) responded to a 911 call about

a man operating a backhoe erratically in the West Park Drive sector. 

Upon arrival at the scene, at 5:00 in the morning, the officers tried to control Joshua González, who was driving the vehicle, but in the 30 minutes in which they carried out a series of maneuvers to stop him, the man caused damage to homes, vehicles , three police cars, an ambulance and a car that was occupied.

It was then that Sergeant Louis Platania fired his weapon, fatally wounding González.

Officers and emergency medical personnel treated the man at the scene, but he was pronounced dead at 5:48 a.m.

In the videos released, you can see the moment in which the officers come to remove González from the vehicle after shooting him.

The images also show how González destroys several properties and a resident of the sector is also heard upset in the middle of the incident.

Neighbors who alerted authorities describe in their 911 call that the man was driving without a specific address.

"We're not sure what this man is doing," a man on the phone said.

According to the statement from the Attorney General's Office, three agents were seriously injured during the incident.
