The United States Supreme Court last night (Thursday) overturned President Joe Biden's decision to require employees of large companies to be vaccinated against the corona virus or to wear masks and be tested weekly.

The Conservative majority in the Supreme Court ruled that the move exceeded the president's authority, but they separately gave the green light to the more limited vaccine requirement in the public health system.

The court's decisions were made in anticipation of the intended entry into force of the regulations in the coming days.

The administration said the vaccine requirement would help fight the epidemic, which has claimed the lives of more than 840,000 Americans.

President Biden, who plummeted in the polls, expressed disappointment with the decision to "block reasonable demands to save workers' lives."

The Democratic president has called for more private companies to join those who already require their employees to get vaccinated - like Google - in order to protect them, their customers and their communities.

The government's vaccination obligation in the workplace was applied to companies with at least one hundred employees, and it would affect about 84 million employees who were required to be vaccinated, put on masks or tested every week - at their own expense.

Employers were supposed to enforce it, but opponents, who included several Republican states and business groups, said the administration exceeded its authority in applying the vaccine obligation imposed in November and immediately faced legal proceedings.

The judges decided by a six-to-three majority - conservative versus liberal - to accept the argument of the Biden administration deviating from its authority. They ruled that workplace safety rules for large employers are too broad to be under the authority of the Ministry of Labor's Health and Occupational Safety Administration to regulate workplace safety.

"The corona can spread and spread at home, in schools, during sporting events and anywhere else where people gather," the judges' ruling said. "This type of universal risk is no different from the everyday dangers we all face like crime, air pollution or other infectious diseases."

"This is not a normal exercise of federal authority," the judges added, but "a significant threat to the lives - and health - of a huge number of workers."

On the other hand, by a majority of five to four,The judges ruled that the Ministry of Health has the authority to require more than ten million health system workers to be vaccinated because they receive public funds.

Former President Donald Trump, who has appointed three of the six Conservative justices to the Supreme Court, welcomed the ruling.

According to him, the duty of vaccines in the workplace "would have further destroyed our economy."

"We are proud that the Supreme Court did not back down, not to the obligation to vaccinate!" He said in a statement.
