Valencia: despite the eviction decision, Albanian squatters continue to occupy "their" building

2022-01-14T17:59:26.845Z

While the court had ordered the immediate evacuation of a building in Valence, the thirty or so squatters intend to remain in the premises.

A prefect who

“does not want to rush”

, neighbors who feel

“betrayed by the prefecture”,

new owners

“on the verge of a nervous breakdown”

. While on November 18, 2021, a court decision pronounced the immediate expulsion of the thirty Albanian nationals who have occupied a building in Valence (Drôme) for a year and a half, the squatters, who appealed, announced that they lived there, and have even just been joined by a new family.

"They don't make too much noise, the prefecture doesn't know where to relocate them, Albania doesn't want to get them back... it seems like nobody cares!"

, exasperated the president of an association of residents.

"A Homemade Firearm"

"It's a squat that has a long history, with an owner who moved, abandoning his property"

, we confirm at the prefecture of Drôme.

The story begins in June 2019, when a neighbor discovers on the low wall of a small unoccupied building

"what looks like a homemade firearm"

.

A little later, observing the many comings and goings of foreign cars, the residents of this residential area realize that the property is squatted.

“The 'No street child' collective, which settles around thirty Albanian nationals there, has even published photos on Facebook!

relates Roland Pisano, president of the Bien-Contents association, created to preserve the tranquility of the district.

Residents call the municipal and national police who move but do nothing.

We don't know how to reach the owner.

So we let it be."

A month later, the squatters had fiber optics installed.

“From there, we witness a ballet of occupants

, describes this neighbor.

There is a frightening turnover, which generates a “traffic” which worries the district enormously. Bicycle traffic is reported to the police. There are also fights with iron bars”.

The association

"seizes the town hall, the prefecture, the Ofpra, the national police, the municipal police, the prosecutor, a lawyer, the owner, parliamentarians, the local press, the defender of rights, and even the presidency of the Republic»

, but nothing is progressing. A justice conciliator responds to these families, most of whom are in an irregular situation,

"occupy the premises peacefully and cleanliness is maintained, therefore the complaint is unfounded"

.

"

If the Albanians set the fire...

"

At the end of 2020, Roland Pisano

"stumbled upon an advertisement for the company Squat Solutions"

, which offered the owner to buy back his property at a low price and launched legal proceedings.

“The court ordered the eviction without taking into account the winter break because they broke in, the assault has therefore been proven,

underlines Yann Collet, creator of Squat solutions.

If the prefecture does not do its job right away, we may have a year and a half of procedures! And as the good is not assured, if the Albanians set fire to it, there will only be one piece of land left... The young couple who have just bought this house from us to settle there are on the verge of a nerve"

.

At the prefecture, it is explained that

“after the judgment of November 18, [she] stood ready to intervene

”. “

Our police regularly reported to us on the situation, but the official request from the bailiff for the intervention of the police only arrived on January 7!

, continues this prefectural source.

We must deport, of course, but under decent conditions: we are not brutes! However, there is an important social component, because in this squat there are families, school children, vulnerable people perhaps, in any case a two-month-old baby. And we are rather on a neighborhood disturbance, not on a squat of 300 people with a hub of drug trafficking!

For the leader of Squat solutions,

"the prefecture's procrastination shows that

the new law on squatters

has changed nothing for owners"

:

"We certainly had a small drop in requests at the start, a year ago

, recognizes Yann Collet,

but today, we have 30% more work than before

.
