Starnberg/Gauting – The number of reported corona infections is increasing.

However, it can be seen that the Omicron variant is – as expected – on the rise.

The district of Starnberg assumes that the number of infections will increase

Diebl explains that the number of registered infected people in the Starnberg district is higher than in the surrounding areas with the measures taken by the responsible health department. It is “close in time” for contact tracing and thus generates more cases. “The more testing is done, the more positive cases there are. That's good, because you can recognize and track them.” It is still uncertain how the rapid tests that are mandatory three times a week and have been carried out on children attending day care centers since this week will have an impact. According to Diebl, the district office assumes that the number of people infected with corona will continue to rise. Against this background, he refers to the high vaccination rate in the district of Starnberg.

“We are doing well, but vaccination does not protect against infection.” In the majority of those who have been vaccinated, however, the disease is very mild.

There are even infected people without symptoms.

The first Omicron case surfaced in the county on December 22nd.

On Tuesday there were already 268 confirmed cases.

The seven-day incidence is higher in Starnberg than in the surrounding area

The seven-day incidence (number of people infected with corona per 100,000 inhabitants) in the district of Starnberg was 592.2 at the time of going to press.

In Weilheim-Schongau the value was even lower at 514.2, also in Landsberg with 582.6 and Fürstenfeldbruck with 342.4.

However, the numbers are increasing in all counties.

Therefore, the hospitals take appropriate precautions.

Currently no corona patients in the intensive care units

As Stefan Berger, the press officer of the Starnberg clinics, explains, there is currently no person in an intensive care unit in the Starnberg-Seefeld-Herrsching clinic network.

At the time of writing, five patients were being treated in the Starnberg Clinic, but only in the normal isolation ward.

In addition, a suspected case was treated.

Hospitals in watchful mode

Berger speaks of “normal operation” in the clinic network.

The situation is still “relatively relaxed”, but you are in “be careful” mode and are preparing for a possible operation with more corona patients.

He mentions the crisis management team that meets twice a week and the exchange of doctors in the hospital network, who are all observing developments that are having a delayed effect on operations in the hospitals.

If necessary, planned operations could be canceled, says Berger.

However, emergency operation is always guaranteed.

The situation is also stable in the Asklepios Klinik Gauting

The situation in the Asklepios Clinic in Gauting is still “relatively stable”, as press officer Beatriz Parente Matschke describes. Two people with the corona virus are being treated there in the isolation ward. There are six in the intensive care unit, all of whom are ventilated. The recent conversation with the chief physician showed that the patients in the normal ward (isolation ward) only stayed briefly, unlike last winter. Because they would either quickly go to intensive care and – which is more often the case – would be released again. She describes the current occupancy of the intensive care unit with six people (five of them unvaccinated) as average. It was significantly higher in December 2020 and January and March 2021. Unlike the district office, which registers the first Omikron patients,this variant is not yet an issue in the Gautinger hospital. "Omicron hasn't arrived yet," explains Beatriz Parente Matschke. But if occupancy increases there as a result of the spread of this variant, you are prepared. Then more beds from the weaning ward can be added to the twelve intensive care beds.
