But now the plan on

looks very different.

At 8:15 p.m., a half-hour “ARD Extra” on the Corona situation begins.

According to

dwdl.de

for the second time this year and twice as long as usual: namely in 30 minutes.

Afterwards, Frank Plasberg will go on the air with "Hart aber fair" from 8.45 p.m.

Omikron development: compulsory vaccination topic at "Hard but fair"

Guests in the talk: Malu Dreyer (SPD), Prime Minister of Rhineland-Palatinate, the FDP member of the Bundestag Christine Aschenberg-Dugnus, the epidemiologist Prof. Dr. Timo Ulrichs, the journalist Michael Bröcker and the medical historian Prof. Dr. Malte Thiessen. Topic of the program: "In the omicron wave: What does compulsory vaccination bring?" It continues from 10 p.m. with the next information program, the "Daily Topics".

The Omicron virus variant is driving the corona numbers in Germany steeply upwards. According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the seven-day incidence again reached a high on Saturday morning, and the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants per week rose to 497.1. For comparison: the day before the incidence was 470.6, a week ago it was 335.9. The health authorities reported 78,022 new infections to the RKI within one day. A week ago it was 55,889. Across Germany, 235 deaths were recorded within 24 hours.

According to the findings of the RKI, omicron is now also predominant in this country.

According to RKI President Lothar Wieler, Germany is entering a “new phase of the pandemic” with the spread of the highly contagious variant and the sharp increase in the number of infections.

“The pure number of cases will be less decisive.

It is more important how many people become seriously ill with Covid-19 and how heavily the health system will then be burdened," Wieler said on Friday.
