According to Spiegel information, the Ministry of Defense is investigating in-house – because of possible irregularities in the flood aid of the Bundeswehr in 2021.

Berlin - The flood in the summer of 2021 was one of the worst natural disasters that the Federal Republic has ever had to experience.

Many people are still facing the shards of their existence today.

Just a side note, but one of the bitter kind, it is there when other affected people may have received preferential treatment for the all-important flood relief because of their position.

But exactly this allegation is in the air: According to information from the

Spiegel

, surveys have been going on in the Ministry of Defense for several weeks.

Ministry of Defense: bad suspicion against employee?

investigations are ongoing

According to internal information, a department head in the Ministry of Defense is said to have brought a Bundeswehr auxiliary unit including an emergency generator to her private home in the Ahr Valley through several calls, as the magazine reported on Friday.

The soldiers were supposed to clean mud from the conservatory of the damaged building and were therefore unable to help with significantly more damaged houses in the region.

The legal department has been conducting inquiries about the information since the end of October, reports

Der Spiegel

.

According to an initial assessment, the process could even be relevant under criminal law.

The ministry did

not want to comment on the case in detail to

Der Spiegel .

No comment: the ministry and department heads are silent on allegations that have been circulated

A spokeswoman told the magazine "that if there is any suspicion of possible misconduct in the office, an investigation will be initiated."

The officer herself declined to answer questions about the case, the report said.

In another case, the Bundeswehr is already investigating irregularities in flood aid: According to

Spiegel

information, a lieutenant colonel is said to have given his superior general preferential treatment.

In connection with the flood disaster, an opencast mine operator is now also suspected of having caused a flood in Erftstadt through negligence.
