From the end of last month to the middle of this month, the customs uncovered two drug trafficking cases by sea and land. From the end of last month to the middle of this month, the customs uncovered two drug trafficking cases by sea and land. Officers first seized 110 kilograms of cannabis flowers in instant oatmeal shipped to Hong Kong from Canada, and then seized 63 kg of cannabis flowers in solar panels that arrived in Hong Kong by air from Mexico. Kilograms of "ice" drugs were seized in the two cases with a market value of HK$70 million.

Customs arrested 2 men and 1 woman in the New Territories after investigation.

It was also found that the drug trafficking methods of the two cases were very similar to the previous cases, and it was suspected that the drug gang wanted to use the same method to get away with it for many months.

Chen Shaoqiu, commander of the first drug investigation team of the Customs Drug Investigation Division, pointed out that on December 31 last year, officers of the Customs Port and Maritime Division inspected a batch of ready-to-eat oatmeal shipped from Canada to Hong Kong and found that 100 of the 1,160 boxes of goods contained hidden 110 kilograms of suspected cannabis flowers, accounting for about 8% of the entire shipment, with a total value of about 22.4 million yuan.

The Customs Narcotics Bureau took over the investigation and took action on January 13. A 16-year-old unemployed man and a 34-year-old truck driver were arrested in Yuen Long and Sheung Shui respectively. The two are now under arrest.

The 16-year-old man was responsible for signing for the shipment.

Chen Shaoqiu continued to point out that it is common for drug dealers to mix drugs into normal goods, but the criminal method of this case is similar to the marijuana flower case cracked by customs on December 6 last year. The drug gang also transported instant oatmeal from Canada to Hong Kong. 108 kilograms of marijuana flowers were seized, and 45 kilograms of marijuana flowers were seized in another storage warehouse in the city, with a total of 153 kilograms of marijuana flowers, with a market value of up to 32 million yuan.

Customs is now investigating whether the two cases are connected.

Chen Shaoqiu estimates that these drugs are mainly supplied to the local market, and it cannot be ruled out that drug dealers stockpiled a large amount of drugs on the eve of the Lunar New Year.

Lin Zelin, commander of the airport investigation team of the Customs Narcotics Investigation Division, pointed out that on January 10, Customs inspected a batch of solar panels arriving from Mexico at Hong Kong International Airport and found 63 kilograms of methamphetamine in the two solar panels, with a market value of about 47 million.

The Customs Drug Investigation Division took over the investigation and found that the place of receipt was a storage warehouse in Fanling. During the operation, a 36-year-old woman in charge of a logistics company was arrested.

Customs investigation found that the consignment was sent directly by a Mexican logistics company to a logistics company in Hong Kong. However, the Mexican logistics company had not delivered any goods to Hong Kong in the past year. It was suspected that the consignor was trying to hide the identity of the sender to avoid random inspection by customs officers.

Lin Zelin pointed out that the shipping route and goods in this case were similar to a solar panel drug shipment case last year. Customs seized 180 kilograms of methamphetamine at that time. Customs believed that the drug gang used the same method to commit the crime after three months. .

Customs appeals to the logistics sector to properly check the goods. If any suspicious items are found, they should notify the Customs immediately. Members of the public should not help others to transport unknown goods out of greed.
