The inclusion officer of the municipality of Berg, Elisabeth Fuchsenberger, submitted a report to the municipal council.

A site visit is planned.

Berg – Actually, it shouldn't be made difficult for people with disabilities to participate in social and political life.

At least since 2009, when the Federal Republic of Germany signed the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

Actually - but the reality looks different in many areas, as the Berger inclusion officer Elisabeth Fuchsenberger stated in her report for the municipal council.

Fuchsenberger is the contact person for people with disabilities in the municipality of Berg.

After all, 8.29 percent of the citizens of Berg, i.e. 691 citizens, have a disability card.

Significantly less than the district average, which is 10.5 percent.

The trend is rising: 10,831 people with disabilities lived in the district in 2010, and 14,124 in 2020. 8,739 and 9,768 of them were severely disabled.

The SPD municipal councilor sees herself as a caretaker. She helps people with disabilities with applications to the authorities, accompanies citizens if they wish, advises them on questions about work and on converting their homes to make them suitable for the disabled. Your opinion is sought in the construction of municipal buildings and roads. And of course as part of a network - Fuchsenberger already held the honorary position in the last election period of the municipal council and is well networked in issues relating to the disabled. Fuchsenberger's experience is that inclusion is difficult at school. "It's not made easy for people," she said. "The teachers are very committed, but it is often difficult."

In the past, Fuchsenberger organized readings with the hearing-impaired Anna Krott from the Gilchinger Auricle self-help group and with the journalist Zuhal Soyhan, who suffers from brittle bone disease. Because of Corona, the Day of Inclusion 2021 could not take place with campaigns, which is why Berg took part in a district-wide poster campaign entitled "Your vote for inclusion - join in!". Fuchsenberger wants to prepare a site inspection this year to point out neuralgic points for the disabled. She wants to organize more easy-to-read books for the Aufkirchen library and get involved with the school assistants: "That's what keeps me busy." And she's looking for families who want to host athletes during the Special Olympics, which are taking place in Germany next year . noble
