Iran reiterated the need to lift the coercive economic measures imposed on Syria, expressing its support for its national sovereignty, territorial integrity and the establishment of peace and stability in it.
Senior Adviser to the Iranian Foreign Minister for Special Political Affairs Ali Asghar Khaji said during his meeting today in Tehran with the United Nations Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen that "Iran has always supported and supports the efforts of the United Nations to enhance national sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria, encourage the Syrian-Syrian dialogue and lay the foundations for peace and stability in it." .
He added, "The Syrian government and people confronted ISIS and other terrorist organizations for more than 10 years, and now it has reached relative stability," pointing to the importance of intensifying current efforts to lift sanctions, provide assistance to the people, return refugees, and begin reconstruction.
In turn, Pedersen praised Iran's efforts in cooperating with the United Nations and its role in the Astana process on Syria.
