Even if the construction work is not yet complete, you can already see a lot of the “new Marienplatz” in Altenstadt.

Altenstadt – After eight months of construction and an equally long complete closure, the Marienplatz between Burglachbergstrasse and Schongauer Strasse has been open to traffic again since the end of last year, and the Marienplatz bus stop near the town hall is also back in operation.
There is nothing left of the very time-consuming work involved in laying the water and power lines, the fiber optic lines for the Internet and the renewal of the telephone lines under the entire Marienplatz.
Instead, on closer inspection, it is apparent that the bus stop has high curbs on both sides for barrier-free entry and exit and that a new bus shelter has been installed.
This area is also equipped with a handicap guidance system – also known as a guidance system or tactile floor guidance system.
The road itself is paved in the square area and then asphalted in both directions.
The Marian column, which was moved in front of the town hall, means that the street now curves gently past it.
The parking lot on the east side was lowered almost to street level and secured with a stone wall facing the slope.
As a result of the lowering, "the whole thing has more space character", Mayor Andreas Kögl explains this measure.
Further construction work
Despite the numerous measures, work on the large-scale project, which costs around 1.3 million euros, is still not complete.
There is still a lot to be done on the south and north side of the town hall in particular before it is finally completed.
Among other things, a path and a step access to the creek will be created and the railing on the creek wall will also be renewed.
In addition to other work that has yet to be completed and other improvements to make it suitable for the disabled, the planting work that is due in spring should help ensure that the park benches that are also still to be set up will not remain empty.
Completion by June
Andreas Kögl is confident that all work will be completed by the beginning of June at the latest.
So we will have to wait a few more months for the final appearance of the project, which has received considerable support from the Office for Rural Development.
You can already look forward to it all the more.
