In the fight against Corona, Germany relies on boosters.
But anyone who refuses the third vaccination will soon have problems: the EU Commission has decided on new deadlines.
Berlin – Anyone who rejects the booster vaccination against the corona virus will soon be unable to travel within the EU.
The EU Commission has decided that digital vaccination certificates for first and second vaccinations will no longer be valid after 270 days.
Anyone who has not been boosted at the latest nine months after their second vaccination is considered unvaccinated and can no longer travel to other EU countries.
The EU Commission announced this on its website.
Vaccination against coronavirus: Certificates are no longer valid
According to the afp
news agency, the Federal Ministry of Health announced the new EU regulation in response
to a request from CDU MP Wilfried Oellers.
It is binding for Germany and applies from February 1, 2022. The initiative came from EU member state Greece.
Its President Mitsotakis even demanded from the EU Commission that the vaccination certificate should only be valid for six months from the second vaccination.
This has now been extended to nine months.
In this way, the EU wants to ensure "that the national vaccination campaigns can be adapted and that citizens have access to booster doses," according to the website of the EU Commission.
The background is, among other things, the rapid spread of the highly contagious omicron variant.
Booster vaccinations against Corona: No expiry date so far
There are currently no new deadlines for the validity of booster vaccinations.
However, Stiko has adjusted its recommendations for boosters: young people should also receive a third vaccination – but only with a specific vaccine.
But there are also hopes that the corona pandemic could soon be over: Bill Gates is pushing forward with a forecast.
