Starnberg – When it comes to tunnel construction in Starnberg, the State Building Authority in Weilheim draws a positive balance.

What has already happened and what measures are planned for this year.

In addition to structural aspects, the focus in 2022 will be on the plan change procedure and the completion of the tender planning in order to be able to start tunnel construction.

Specifically, the following measures are currently planned:

In April, tunnel construction work begins south of the B2

The construction work for the road construction of the future northern access should be completed in the coming year. The plan is to close the gap up to the railway bridge. Depending on the weather, the work is expected to begin in April on the south side of the B 2 near the Esso petrol station. Four weeks later, pavement construction is planned on two weekends each for the entire area between the intersection of the B 2 with Moosstrasse/Perchastrasse to the end of the northern access road (just before the railway bridge). This will entail the greatest traffic restrictions. At the end of the work, a new crossing island will be installed at the junction with Gautinger Straße in the middle of the B 2, which will then also according to plan stop traffic coming from the city center in the direction of Gauting.

Significant traffic restrictions on Moosstraße due to the construction of the tunnel ceiling

Remaining work in the northern approach is planned from July.

The approx. 160 m long tunnel boring machine needs its own power supply for its use under Starnberg.

Bayernwerk, which will also bear the lion's share of the costs, will be responsible for the laying over the next two years.

Because after the power supply to the tunnel boring machine, this new line will be used for Starnberg in the long term.

The planned route starts at Starnberg North Station and runs along the B 2 to the current interim storage facility on the southern outskirts.

The tunnel boring machine will start work in the south.

In the vicinity of the B 2, there will always be work on supply and disposal lines in the area of the north portal at the height of the railway bridge at the beginning of the construction period.

This work prepares the construction site for the upcoming renewal of the railway bridge in 2023 and creates a free construction site at the north portal.

Results of the realization competition flow into the award procedure

In the past year, extensive water law documents for the ongoing plan amendment procedure were drawn up and handed over to the responsible authorities.

All of the documents, with minor adjustments to the plan change documents, are expected to be announced in spring 2022 as part of a public display.

The additional documents supplement the current procedure and do not replace it.

The responsibility lies with the government of Upper Bavaria.

Architect team working on design solution in 2022

In close coordination with the city of Starnberg, the results of the realization competition will be included in the further award procedure.

Depending on the result of this award procedure, a team of architects will finally be brought on board in 2022 in order to find a design solution that is attractive for the city of Starnberg and characterizes the cityscape.

A permanently installed LED information board in front of the Maxhof roundabout is intended to inform road users coming from Weilheim quickly and easily about planned traffic restrictions in the Starnberg through-road due to work on the B 2 Starnberg tunnel.

Commissioning is planned for the second quarter of 2022.

When the tunnel is opened for traffic, the information board becomes part of the tunnel operating technology and thus remains in place.

Dialogue with the residents of the tunnel route

In January, the new dialogue “Securing Evidence” will reach households in the core area of the city of Starnberg, under which the tunnel route will run, by direct mail.
