A true treasure trove of art is slumbering in the Wartenberg depot in the media center: soon, around 500 works will also be on view for ordinary people, in an online museum.

The Wartenberg market council has given the green light for an online museum.

A lot is already planned.

Wartenberg – "We have built up a treasure trove over the decades," says Heike Kronseder enthusiastically about the approximately 500 paintings that are slumbering in the depot in the Wartenberg media center. As an example, there are works by the painter Josef Zach, which the market town received as a gift from relatives of the artist family in 2019. It's only stupid if the average person who doesn't have access to the depot can't look at the paintings. That will soon change, because the treasure chest can soon be opened by anyone - online.

As is well known, it was already a topic in the culture committee that an online museum should be set up on the initiative of Kronseder, an art historian with a doctorate. At the Market Council meeting on Wednesday, the committee officially gave the green light for this. For the first step, 4000 euros are planned in the budget for the current year. The creation of the homepage costs around 1200 to 1500 euros, the maintenance of the pictures costs around 1800 euros.

"I really think it's a great thing, and we can expand the online museum as we wish," said Mayor Christian Pröbst (CSU).

And Kronseder (FWG) said with a smile: "I think the idea is very good, and not just because it's mine." One of the first municipalities would offer such a museum.

Kronseder is certain: “People will like browsing through it.

"The pictures have been in the depot for a long time, but you just don't see them."

As Pröbst announced, Kronseder is waiving a flat-rate fee for volunteer work.

She will photograph the works and make them available to the creator of the homepage, Helmut Schneider from Wartenberg.

"That's what I really enjoy, my job," said Kronseder.

Nina Hieronymus (CSU) sees the project as "an important signal for art in the Wartenberg market".

Melanie Falzetta (Greens) praised: "I'm excited about this idea." And she suggested dividing the museum into different sections and including explanations of history.

Alluding to a corresponding lecture on old images by Wartenberg, Falzetta wished to show these in the online museum as well.

The decision to set it up was unanimous.

When will it be ready to click?

When asked by our newspaper, Kronseder said: "We want to do everything without pressure and only become public when it's worth browsing the site.

That will be early summer.”

After that it will continue: after the municipal collection, the historical documents and photographs could also follow, "we could possibly also expand on what is in the private inventory - of course voluntarily for the owners, some have already reported," says Kronseder .

Also think about short film lectures.

"For example, someone talks for five minutes about a historical topic, or we offer a short tour of the town or church online." Once the basic structure is in place, suggestions will certainly come from the citizenry, "or helpers, supporters, etcetera will get in touch".
