Weyarn – Species protection at Seehamer See should improve.

To this end, several participants drew up a catalog of measures.

At the request of the Miesbach district group in the State Association for Bird Protection (LBV), the municipality of Weyarn invited to a “Seehamer See Round Table” in June last year. The interests of all clubs and institutions involved in using the lake should be better reconciled with species protection. In the process, Stadtwerke München (SWM), as the owner of the lake, the LBV and the Isar fishermen formed a smaller working group and developed a joint solution paper.

As the community has now announced, new signs are to be set up and kitesurfing is to be banned. However, the corresponding regulations still have to be issued by the Miesbach district office.

"Our pre-Alpine waters have a very important function and must be preserved and protected as a resting place for migratory birds," explains Gerhard Kinshofer from the LBV.

He compares these with gas stations and rest areas, which are also necessary for tourists on their way to vacation.

But because the leisure pressure of those seeking relaxation in the Oberland is increasing, the Seehamer See has become an increasingly uncomfortable place for many birds.

Stand-up paddlers and kitesurfers in particular make it extremely difficult for migratory birds to relax for a few days before they can start their flight to South Africa.

As the bird expert went on to say, breeding waterfowl are also repeatedly startled in the reed zones.

As a result, they leave their clutch and the eggs cool down.

For this reason, the LBV, on behalf of the working group, has asked the district office to ban kitesurfing on Lake Seeham by ordinance in the future and to extend the winter time, which is worthy of protection, with the existing more far-reaching bans.

In addition, new signs should provide information about the situation as an appeal to reason and point out areas that require special consideration.

The jointly financed signs are made and erected by SWM.

Mayor Leonhard Wöhr, who, as he said, only acted as a moderator, is "glad that we managed the working paper so amicably and, in my opinion, that we did it well."
