In order to spread environmentally friendly agricultural methods, the Directorate of Agriculture in As-Suwayda is working to train farmers on the technology of manufacturing biofertilizers and soil conditioners from local materials, as part of the Regenerative Agriculture project implemented in cooperation with the United Nations Development Program.

Head of the Organic Production Department in the Directorate, Eng. Reham Murshid, explained in her statement to SANA reporter that this technology comes within the framework of searching for more soil conditioners and their manual manufacture by farmers using microorganisms adapted to the environment by catching and collecting them using boiled rice and other types of grains. Put it in a piece of natural reeds or a plastic tube and bury it in fertile, immobile soil for 15 days, in order to collect the largest amount of organisms. Thus, the first stage is to prepare for what is known globally as (IMO 1).

Engineer Morshed continued, explaining the content of the technology, “After that, work is underway to prepare the Imo 2 preparation by collecting rice from the traps and mixing it with a natural sugar solution such as molasses or brown sugar solution to form a viscous liquid that is filtered and the liquid is kept in the refrigerator for a period between 4 and 8 weeks to secure an appropriate medium. For these organisms to multiply and reach stability, then it is ready for use as a natural fertilizer and a safe pesticide, and it can be added to compost mixtures to enhance the presence of beneficial organisms within it.

Training of farmers on this technology is carried out under the supervision of specialized technicians. The training targeted farmers from the towns of Al Raha, Al Mazraa and Arman who were previously trained during the last period within the framework of the same project on various technologies, including compost, vermicompost, biochar and intensified cultivation ponds, to complete their experience in this field.

According to the supervisor of training in the town of Al-Raha, Engineer Mazen Abu Ismail, this technique met with a great response from the farmers, and a number of them began to apply their own experiments in preparation for the use of the resulting product in their work in the coming period. The preparation is new to farmers and is being followed up to adopt results that better serve the local environment.

According to farmer Ayman Asad Al-Halabi from the town of Al-Mazraa, the technology of manufacturing biofertilizers serves the development of the agricultural situation and reduces the burdens on farmers due to the high prices of fertilizers and pesticides, indicating that he started applying them within his land to obtain good results during fertilizing crops.
