First come the compulsory tasks, then the freestyle: Even if some citizens would like to fill the old hops hall in Nandlstadt with life, the school is currently at the top of the to-do list for Mayor Gerhard Betz.

Nandlstadt

– Nandlstadt's Mayor Gerhard Betz was a bit surprised that the use of the old hops hall is now in the public eye - for example on the Facebook page "Market stories from Nandlstadt" privately managed by historian Isabella Hödl-Notter. Because the old hops hall was already part of the ISEK concept and a public participation carried out within this framework, the head of the town hall explained in the FT interview. Currently, said Betz, there are more urgent projects that need to be implemented.

At the top of the to-do list is the expansion of the Nandlstadt elementary and middle school. "From 2026 there will be a legal right to all-day care in the primary school," says the head of the town hall. That means "that we're going full throttle in our planning this year because we have to expand," says Betz. In addition, he announces that from the 2023/2024 school year the first class will have three classes. That also requires space. Exactly how many rooms will be needed has not yet been determined, but Betz is already anticipating “four to six” classrooms, specialist rooms and childcare rooms. It is also still completely open whether there will be an extension or a "superstructure" over the kitchen on the school site - all of this still has to be clarified. And investments in the old gymnasium are also urgently needed. "We're well on time," says Betz. But you have to keep at it and "go full throttle". The tender for the planning work is currently running.

The indoor pool should also be checked

As part of the review of the school, the indoor pool will also be examined, the head of the town hall announced.

The popular facility is around 50 years old and urgently needs to be renovated or renewed.

This facility will also be checked.

"I would like to keep the indoor pool, but that depends on several factors - including the costs, of course," says Betz.

Although there are no concrete plans yet, the mayor hopes that work on the school's extension can begin in 2024, with the extension or superstructure opening in early 2026.

"My focus is on looking after the children because that's a duty of the community," says Betz.

By the way: A historic building is also to be revived in Langenbach: the old train station.

Proposals are currently being collected for the project.
