An unusual move to recruit a state witness led on Thursday to the filing of three indictments against young residents of Haifa.

Two of them, 26-year-old Ahmad al-Dahal and 33-year-old Samar Hafajah, are accused of murdering 39-year-old Mahran Mugrabi, who lived near the wholesale market, in a run that was followed by a short-range shot to confirm the killing.

The third defendant, who was recruited as a state witness, is known as A.

He was willing to admit that he conducted the preliminary tour for his friends, provided them with a gun to carry out the assassination and observed for them.

This is the first time in 10 years or more that the police are recruiting a state witness in Haifa, where in 2021 ten unsolved murders were committed, most of them in Arab society.

It was learned that the state witness has not been charged with murder.

"If state witnesses had been recruited, they would have deciphered half of the murders in Arab society, and not just in Haifa," he told Walla!

A source familiar with the investigation.

"The problem is that the prosecution does not approve."

The background to the murder is a conflict that developed following al-Dahal's stabbing a week earlier.

Al Dahal believed that it was Mugrabi who stabbed him, and decided to take revenge on him, along with his other two accomplices.

The three had a gun that they were holding together, and Sha hid in his apartment building.

The indictment describes in detail the course of the murder.

According to the detail, al-Dahal and Hafaja asked Ma to equip himself with a gun and check if Mugrabi's vehicle was parked near his house and then update them or fire at the vehicle.

A. waited near Mugrabi's house for a while, and when he did not see the vehicle, he returned to his house.

He later met his two friends, who had arrived in a Skoda vehicle, near the wholesale market and handed them the gun.

From there he continued on an electric bicycle on his way.

At this point Mugrabi came out of an alley near his house while also riding an electric bicycle.

As he passed a bakery on the street he was spotted by the two defendants who were in the vehicle.

They hit him while riding and knocked him off the bike and stopped him.

At this point Hafafa got out of the vehicle with the gun and fired at Mugrabi at least nine shots from short range.

All three defendants fled to their homes while Mugrabi was rushed to Rambam Medical Center in critical condition. A few hours later he was pronounced dead.

Following this, the unit for the fight against crime in the Carmel area of the police conducted an undercover investigation that included collecting numerous testimonies, scanning materials from security cameras and using technological means. The investigation led to the detention of the suspects, which was extended from time to time for a total period of more than 50 days

. The murdered man was questioned as a suspect. A.'s route of the electric bicycle is documented entirely in the security cameras, as well as the meeting with the other two defendants.

A.'s two friends are charged with aggravated murder and weapons offenses, and if convicted they face life imprisonment.

At the same time, the Haifa District Attorney's Office, through the plaintiffs 'attorney Adv. Khaled, has requested that attorney Tzachi Namirovsky extend the suspects' detention until the end of the proceedings.

The hearing on the application will take place in the future, and in the meantime the detention has been extended until a different decision is made by Judge Nitzan Silman.
