The government today (Sunday) approved the appointment of Brigadier General Moshe Edri to the position of head of the Atomic Energy Commission.
Edri, 59, who has a bachelor's degree in Middle Eastern and African studies from the University of Haifa and a master's degree in public policy from Bar Ilan University, currently serves as assistant defense minister and in charge of special measures (IMM) and defense in the Ministry of Defense.
During his service as a company commander in the Golani, Edri was seriously injured in a training accident in September 1984 and his left arm was amputated.
In July 1998, he was appointed commander of the Heaths Rescue and Evacuation Unit (669) and commanded it until 2001. He then headed the Special Forces Command.
Brigadier General Edri will replace the current head of the committee, Zeev Snir, who has been in office since 2015 and will end his term in June.
