In addition to mandatory vaccinations for healthcare workers, Greece will also have mandatory vaccinations for people over the age of 60 from this Sunday.
For all Greeks over the age of 60, this means that anyone who has not yet received their first dose of vaccination must pay from now on. 100 euros per month. Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced this in November. He justified the vaccination requirement by saying that nine out of ten corona deaths affected this age group.
Immediately after the announcement in November, many Greeks made vaccination appointments.
The development of the extremely few vaccinations per day could thus be turned around.
Since the measure was announced in November, nearly 90 percent of those over 60 have been vaccinated, Mitsotakis said.
From Monday onwards, the state social security system will forward the data of unvaccinated people to the tax office, which will collect the fines.
The money will go to the country's hospitals.
