Due to the eruption of an underwater volcano off the island of Tonga and the dangers of a tsunami, Japanese authorities advised hundreds of thousands of residents to leave their homes after waves of more than one meter swept coastal areas.
The Japanese radio and television (NHK) reported that the authorities had asked about 230,000 people in eight prefectures to leave their homes due to the risk of a tsunami from the volcano.
Ten ships capsized in Kochi prefecture on the southern island of Shikoku, and Japan Airlines has canceled 27 flights at airports across the country because of the volcano, the state television said.
In turn, Kyodo News Agency reported that the eruption of the volcano, which occurred at night, caused delays in trains and postal services in some areas, and some residents spent a cold night after leaving their homes to higher areas.
The eruption of the volcano in the South Pacific led to the flight of the Tonga archipelago in panic to higher areas and warnings of tsunami waves in the United States, Chile and Japan.
