Some new rules will apply to holidaymakers in Italy in 2022.

Not only have the entry regulations been tightened, there may even be a fine on the slopes.

The corona situation in Italy* is slowly getting worse again – and thus also in the popular winter sports areas in South Tyrol.

On top of that, ski holidaymakers now have to adhere to another new rule, which is to be checked by carabinieri.

Failure to comply will result in fines.

Skiing holidays in Italy: without this proof, there is a risk of a fine

In Italy, since January 1st, 2022, it has been mandatory for every skier and snowboarder in the Italian ski areas to have

valid personal liability

insurance that covers damage and injuries to third parties - with the exception of cross-country ski slopes. "Non-insured people have to expect administrative penalties of 100 to 150 euros and the withdrawal of their ski pass," as reported by the online portal

nordbayern.de

, citing a message to the HUK insurance branch offices in Gunzenhausen. According to this, ski holidaymakers who cannot prove insurance cover have the option of taking out a – probably – expensive daily policy with the ski pass. Anyone who refuses and is still caught on skis on the slopes has

to pay a fine of up to 150 euros

calculate.

It is not yet known whether children are included in the on-site policies.

If you are unsure whether you have this insurance cover, you should find out more from the insurer before you leave and have current proof issued.

In Italy it has been customary for a few years for specially trained ski police officers to check on the slopes whether holidaymakers are complying with the FIS rules or are wearing a helmet.

Something has happened here too: Previously, only children under the age of 14 had to

wear a helmet

when skiing, snowboarding or tobogganing , now everyone up to the age of 18 is obliged to wear a helmet.

The helmets must be CE certified.

On top of that,

alcohol

levels on the slopes have been subject to higher fines since January 1, 2022: from 0.5 per mil there are penalties of between 250 and 1,000 euros, from 0.8 per mil it is even considered a criminal offense that can be punished, among other things, with a report.

Strict 2G rule in force in Italy

Since January 10, Italy has had a

2G rule for access to hotels, restaurants, ski lifts and local and long-distance transport

. This means that a skiing holiday in South Tyrol is hardly possible for people who have not been vaccinated. The government wants to bring the corona situation under control again, which has steadily deteriorated again in recent weeks. Most recently, Italy reported an

average 7-day incidence of 1,669 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants nationwide

.

Since January 1, the country has also been considered a high-risk area by the federal government, which means stricter entry rules for travelers returning.

A digital entry registration is now mandatory for all travelers, and those who have not been vaccinated or have not recovered are threatened with a 10-day quarantine.

This can be ended prematurely after five days if the test is negative.
