The new sports funding model has sparked discussions in the city council.

The clubs also have different opinions on the new regulations.

Geretsried – At the turn of the year, the regulations for financial support from the city changed for Geretsried sports clubs. As reported, shortly before Christmas, the city council decided on a new model for promoting sports. Not everyone on the committee was convinced of the change that the working group on budget consolidation had developed with the sports department.

According to the new model, the clubs should get points according to the number of members.

There are additional points for children, young people, senior citizens and people with disabilities who are in the club.

There are deductions for the use of municipal sports facilities.

The gradation according to which the points are converted into the maximum possible sports funding caused displeasure in the city council.

In particular, the cap from 2001 points and thus at 14,400 euros, as it only affects the largest club in the city.

Cap in the sports funding model for the TuS "unfair"

"In our eyes, that's unfair," says TuS CEO Mirko Naumann when asked by our newspaper. He assumes that the association would receive twice the amount of funding if each of the ten departments were a separate association. But: “Splitting up because of a few euros is out of the question for us. We see ourselves as a club,” says Naumann. Especially since the bundling in a professional administration of currently 2158 members also makes it easier for the city. "That is not recognized in the model." How the cap came about is unclear to him, says Naumann, as well as why the city relies heavily on the promotion of seniors, while the state's point system focuses on youth promotion. He also cannot assess whether it is fair that there are other agreements for water and ice hockey athletes. The model was decided very quickly. "We heard about it from the newspaper," said the TuS chairman. "We haven't yet understood the whole dimension and have to see how it develops." Naumann emphasizes that he thinks the idea of giving small clubs the opportunity to get money to develop further is a good idea.

Compared to the previous year, no club is doing worse according to the new guidelines, for almost all of them there is even a significant increase.

"We weren't dissatisfied with the old model, but if we can get more support, that's a nice thing," says Patrick Verbaast from the Geretsried football club.

The association has grown from 360 to almost 500 members in recent years – and the trend is rising.

"As a result, we have increased needs," says Verbaast.

"The changing rooms in the clubhouse are bursting at the seams and we also need enough material to be able to train all teams well."

Smaller clubs were already satisfied beforehand

For other clubs such as the Geretsried tennis club – with around 400 members and ten courts of its own, it is after all the largest tennis club in the district – the new guidelines are currently not an issue. "We have nothing pending," says Chairman Axel Freitel. In the past, the city participated in the renovation of the squares and the purchase of a floodlight system. "We can't complain."

Gerhard Teubert, vice-treasurer at the Geretsried curling club, says the same thing, with a view to the support for the new curling rink on the Robert-Schumann-Weg. The site belongs to the city. "It's a good understanding, the city is always willing to help if something is wrong," said Teubert. New acquisitions, on the other hand, are difficult, first of all the club has to attract young people. It has 72 members, the average age is 60 years. Teubert: "We would be happy if young people would follow."

The riding club for vaulting and mounted games also has another construction site at the moment.

"Since November, only horse owners have been allowed into the stable," reports Chairman Ulrich Safft.

Training and tournaments are therefore currently not possible due to the corona.

"It would be important for the children to be able to move again," says Safft.

If that works again and the club grows with currently 33 members, the club would need a subsidy for a second horse.

But then there would be another problem: "It's incredibly difficult to find vaulting trainers."
