(CNN) --

Rafael Benitez is no longer the manager of Everton Football Club.

The English Premier League side confirmed the news on Sunday saying he "left the club with immediate effect" and "a definite replacement will be made in due course."

Benítez, who arrived at Everton in June 2021, saw his team lose 2-1 to Norwich City on Saturday.

Former Real Madrid and Valencia manager Benítez is the latest manager to fail to live up to expectations at Goodison Park and they are now looking for their seventh chief coach in six years.

Since current Belgium manager Roberto Martinez left the club in 2016, Everton have turned to Dutchman Ronald Koeman, Englishman Sam Allardyce, Portuguese Marco Silva and Italian Carlo Ancelotti before Benitez's brief spell.

The club hasn't finished in the top six since 2014.
