Tsunami fears recede in the Pacific Ocean

Washington, SANA- The threat of a high tidal wave (tsunami) has begun across the Pacific Ocean as a result of a huge volcanic eruption

Washington-Sana

The threat of a tsunami across the Pacific Ocean from a massive undersea volcanic eruption is receding today.

According to the Associated Press, these threats recede with the passage of time, as there is no indication of the possibility of such strong waves in the bordering countries close to the place of the eruption of the volcano.

Japan earlier issued a tsunami warning approaching two islands in the country, while the small country of Tonga remained the worst affected so far, as an undersea volcanic eruption caused high waves that crashed into the shore and prompted citizens to rush to higher ground.

This explosion also led to the interruption of the Internet in Tonga, while New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said: There have been no official reports of injuries or deaths in Tonga so far, but she pointed out that the authorities have not yet communicated with some coastal areas and smaller islands.

Ardern said that great damage to boats and shops along the coast of Tonga and a thick layer of volcanic dust covered the capital Nuku Alofa, which led to the contamination of the water supply and severe shortage of fresh water.

Ardern noted that New Zealand was unable to send reconnaissance planes over Tonga today because of the ash cloud that reached a height of 19,000 meters, but she hopes to try again tomorrow to be able to send planes and supply ships.

Satellite images showed the amazing volcanic eruption that occurred yesterday evening, with a column of ash, steam and gas rising in the form of a mushroom over the waters of the Pacific Ocean, while a loud sound could be heard as far away as Alaska.
