Stormy times in northern Germany: where is it particularly windy?
Storm, snow and ice: The north of Germany has to prepare for stormy weather from Sunday (January 16). The foothills of the low-pressure area bring stormy gusts to severe gusts of wind with wind force 10, according to the German Weather Service (DWD) in its warning situation report. Wind speeds of up to 80 to 90 km/h can develop on the Baltic Sea. But even low mountain ranges are feeling the effects of the turbulent weather.
While the low in the north shows up with rain, the middle of Germany can look forward to snow, especially at higher altitudes.
However, the big onset of winter is not to be expected in the first few days.
With one to nine degrees at the start of the week, it's just too warm for that during the day.
In addition, the high pressure area from the east, which is currently determining our weather, is having a stronger influence again.
However, the snow in the east and south-east could be enough for a small snowball fight.
At the end of the week, a second change in the weather also gives hope for all fans of the white splendor.
Strong gusts of wind are brewing in the north.
In central Germany, on the other hand, it can snow, as here recently on Fichtelberg.

Weather change number two: will the snow still come in the middle of the week?

and the DWD predict, it will snow more in the mountains from Thursday (January 20). In the lowlands, the rain can change to short-term snowfall, "in the mountains there is also longer-lasting snowfall," according to the DWD. It can snow about two to ten centimeters in the low mountain ranges, and up to thirty centimeters in higher regions. Stormy weather will persist in the north.
In addition to the joy of snowy landscapes, caution is required.
Because it can get slippery at the weekend and at the start of the week.
With the exception of the north and northwest, the temperatures at night are between zero and minus six degrees, according to the DWD.
Combined with persistent fog or rain, roads can become slippery.
