12 killed in earthquake in eastern Afghanistan

Kabul, SANA- At least 12 people were killed and others injured in an earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale.

At least 12 people were killed and others injured in an earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale that struck eastern Afghanistan today.

"The victims were killed when the roofs of their homes fell on them, including women and children, while several others were wounded," Mohamed Saleh Bardel, governor of the Cadiz region in Badghis state, was quoted by AFP as saying.

An earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale hit northeastern Afghanistan and southern Tajikistan last Friday.
