Police forces arrived this morning (Monday) at the family home of Sheikh Jarrah to evacuate them. The Salahiya family refuses to evacuate their home, and they are fortifying themselves at this time, equipped with a gas cylinder, threatening to set themselves on fire. Execution workers arrived at the scene and later a negotiating team joined, who jumped into the scene.
Apart from the Salahiya family, dozens of young Palestinians and activists gathered there. Also, MK Musi Raz from Meretz and MK Ofer Kasif from the joint list faction, as well as diplomatic representatives from the European Union, came to the neighborhood and followed what was happening.
Last night, a number of left-wing activists demonstrated in front of the house of Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Leon in protest of the evacuation of the Palestinian family from their homes in favor of establishing educational institutions there. One person was arrested during the demonstration. "There is no other way to interpret this - the municipality, led by Aryeh King, the deputy mayor, is working hand in hand with the settlers' associations in order to evict the Palestinians from their homes in favor of Judaizing the neighborhood," the Perry Jerusalem organization said.
