Dozens of Palestinians participated in a sit-down in the besieged Gaza Strip today in support of the prisoners in the Israeli prisons, especially the prisoner Nasser Abu Hamid, who has cancer and suffers from a serious deterioration in his health as a result of his coma for 13 days.

Wafa news agency reported that the participants in the sit-in in front of the headquarters of the International Committee of the Red Cross, west of Gaza City, raised pictures of the prisoner Abu Hamid, who is still in a very critical health condition after suffering acute inflammation in the lungs as a result of bacterial contamination, calling on the international community to pressure the occupation to release him. Banners calling on international and human rights institutions to urgently intervene to protect the prisoners in the occupation prisons.

In the same context, the spokesman for the Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners Affairs Authority, Hassan Abd Rabbo, said that the health condition of the prisoner Abu Hamid, who has been detained since 2002, has deteriorated significantly after entering a coma, as he suffers from a lack of immunity and does not respond to treatments and is still on artificial respirators.

Many Palestinian cities witness daily vigils in support of the prisoners in the occupation’s prisons, who number about five thousand, including 600 in need of therapeutic intervention as a result of the deliberate medical neglect policy pursued by the occupation against them.
