The Northern District Planning and Building Committee, headed by Uri Ilan, has approved the plan for a nature reserve on Mount Hermon.
It is one of the largest nature reserves in the Northern District, covering an area of about 81,000 dunams.
In the area of the reserve there are various species of vegetation, which adapt to the changing range of heights of the mountain: from the Mediterranean forest belt on the slopes of Mount Hermon, to the mixture of snow and water (snow) at its summit.
In the area of the reserve there are also plenty of animals such as golden squirrel, snow leopard, radiant warbler, Hermon trumpet, irony and hamster bar, some unique to the mountain.
Also in the area of the reserve are rich archeological and cultural sites, including ancient permanent villages, seedlings, burial caves, agricultural installations, temples and sacred complexes.
The diverse landscape and rock formations include karst caves, dolines, exposed trending rooms, sandy dolomite cliffs, large rock slopes and a karst sculpture garden.

Approval of the plan took many years, due to the security sensitivity in its environment, as it is located in the most sensitive security border area of the country (Mount Hermon and Mount Dov), and only the completion of coordination and agreements between the Ministry of Defense and the Nature and Parks Authority led to approval of the plan.
Interior Minister Ayelet Shaked said of the approval of the plan: "Along with planning housing units, it is equally important to preserve natural resources and approve nature reserves and national parks.
"The Golan Heights is steeped in nature reserves, and I welcome the decision to approve the largest and most important reserve of all these reserves, and one of the most important reserves in the country. .
"Historic landmark"
Uri Ilan, chairman of the Northern District Planning and Building Committee, added:
"The approval of the plan is part of a planning move led by the District Committee for the Preservation of Open Spaces, for future generations."

It should be noted that in the last four years the Planning Administration has approved 65 declarations of nature reserves and national parks, in an unprecedented amount of half a million dunams.
