The Gustav Adolf Memorial Church in Nuremberg has started its Vesperkirche campaign.

There are meals to go and the opportunity to be vaccinated.

Nuremberg – The congregation of the Gustav-Adolf-Gedächtniskirche in Nuremberg*-Lichtenhof has started its Vesperkirche campaign.

For five weeks, food will be served there from Tuesday to Sunday - due to the corona virus only to take away.

If you want, you can also get vaccinated during the campaign, reports the BR.

The spade is available in the parish hall of the church, pre-registration at impfzentren.bayern.de is required.

Nuremberg Vesperkirche: One euro per meal - everyone is welcome

Three wooden huts stand in front of the church.

The first provides information on how to get help, the second is where you pay for your food, and the third is where meals are served.

A portion costs one euro plus a deposit of two euros for the containers.

The campaign fits in with the evangelical church’s annual slogan for 2022: “Whoever comes to me, I will not turn away”.

The Vesperskirche has been held annually since 2016.

All citizens are then invited into the church room - regardless of age, financial situation and religion.

Before the Corona pandemic, a wide variety of people met, and in the afternoons there was also coffee and cake.

However, larger gatherings are currently not possible, Corona requirements make organization difficult;

hence the "external appearance".

Regional bishop praises the action

The Vesperkirche campaign started with a service at which the regional bishop Elisabeth Hann von Weyhern was also present.

She found words of praise: The Vesperkirche offers everyone a place to meet and contributes to a sense of community even in times of Corona.

About 300 meals were distributed on the first day of the campaign.

In the next five weeks there will be significantly more, explains Pastor Mathias Halbig to the BR.

Before the corona pandemic, the Vesperkirche offered a wide range of activities: there was legal advice, visits to the hairdresser and people sang together.

All of that is not possible this year.

Instead, pastors of the parish invite you to pastoral talks.

Vaccination with appointment possible

You can also get vaccinated against the coronavirus* from Monday to Saturday in the community hall.

Previously, pre-registration via impfzentren.bayern.de was required.

"But it is thought that if there is free capacity, there is also the possibility of vaccination without registration," says Pastor Halbig.

The vaccination offer is initially valid for two weeks.

If there is still a need, it will be extended.
