Tartous-Sana
The decision taken by the concerned authorities to exempt areas where protected crops are spread in Tartous Governorate from electrical rationing throughout yesterday evening contributed to limiting the damage to cultivated crops as a result of low temperatures.
Director of Tartous Electricity Company, Engineer Abdel Hamid Mansour, said in a statement to SANA reporter that “the company, in coordination with the Farmers’ Union and the Tartous Agriculture Directorate, yesterday evening fed the protected agricultural areas in which the temperatures drop since six thirty in the evening, pointing out that the feeding will continue today by the same mechanism according to the need.” “.
Mansour added that in areas where temperatures reach below two degrees, greenhouses will be supplied with electricity throughout the night until the early hours of dawn to avoid frost, noting that the technical workshops are on alert around the clock and ready for any emergency that may occur.
Director of the Drought and Natural Disasters Fund at the Directorate of Agriculture, Engineer Haider Shaheen, pointed out that no significant damages were recorded to protected crops and were limited to some leaves in low areas, stressing that these damages do not hinder the process of plant growth and production.
