Djokovic's virus

Australia has deported Novak Djokovic after a rather exemplary procedure, including his hesitations and mistakes.

In other words, solid from the point of view of guaranteeing individual human rights, the rule of law, respect for the rule of law, health and the public interest.

The tennis player has been heard, he has been able to defend himself sufficiently, the necessary time has been given and all the pertinent executive and judicial authorities have intervened.

Therefore, the sports champion will not become a respectable icon of the anti-vaccine movement. And because he himself has recognized three serious errors in his performance. That they could configure something worse, an attempt to deceive the authorities and Australian citizens embarked on a rigorous anti-pandemic campaign. Although that will be difficult to know, since we do not know the details of the medical history —and its possible manipulations—, and it is good that it is so, that the privacy of your personal data is preserved: it is part of the guarantee cast in democracies.

But its bankruptcies have disturbed. "It was an error of judgment" to meet, sick, with a journalist in Belgrade, he acknowledged. “It was a human error” to declare that he had not passed through another country (Spain) before flying to Melbourne, he conceded. “I probably made a mistake” in stating that the panel that initially facilitated the flight was from the federal government, and not from the sports authority and the State of Victoria, he said.

Added to these mistakes are his appearances without a mask at public events when he says he was infected (not counting suggestions that he was never infected). And his anti-protection campaign is added to them (“I am opposed to vaccination” since “nobody forced me to get vaccinated to be able to travel,” he declared already in 2020). The Djokovic virus is not his mistakes, whether they are inaccuracies or falsehoods. It is that from them and from their behavior the lack of credibility about their respect for the right of others not to be infected is inferred.

That's why Australia expels him.

That yes, after committing two failures: a favorable file lightly prepared at the state level (Victoria) and a reprehensible ignoring of the federal immigration agents to their right to a fair procedure (with ample time to organize their defense).

That is why Judge Kelly suspended the cancellation of the visa.

That rectification, the pause in the final decision of the federal government to deport him —for greater reasons of "health", "good order" and "public interest"— and the submission of the case to a full court have validated the process.

The Serbian government replies that it was better to save those steps, that "torture".
