This monkey will be another gamer.
An award-winning crane machine, the kind commonly found in malls and playgrounds, has been set up in the fringed cappuccino monkey complex at a zoo in Nagasaki, Japan, to give the curious animals some interest - and on the way to see if they can learn to operate it successfully.
The experiment was initiated by the zoo in collaboration with the Japanese arcade machine maker Wide Leisure, and the incentive: instead of boring gifts like a doll and toys, items that the cappuccino monkey has too much to do with, the machine is filled with the ultimate prize - delicious raisins.
Raisins for free
Luckily for the cappuccinos, who are considered to be particularly clever monkeys, the machine has undergone several conversions: First of all, the animals did not have to toss coins into it to play with it, but it was programmed to be completely free.
Second, the monkeys were not asked to press a button to lower the lever spoon, but only to move the lever using the direction lever, and the spoon dropped automatically where it stopped.
Went down - and with a little luck also cupped a pampering raisin dish.
The machine was placed for two days in the Capuchin monkey compound, which overcame the shyness and began to express interest in it only on the second day.
At first they were a little suspicious and did not so much know how to eat the new and weird addition to their house.
In fact, they even tried to eat the handle!
But once they realized that the handle moves the inner lever, and that a spoon is attached to the lever that provides desserts at the expense of the house, the machine became the hot attraction of the compound.
The monkey responsible for cracking the mystery is a five-year-old male, described by the zoo staff as particularly curious, and deserves all the compliments.
On the other hand, another cappuccino, whose name is kept in the system due to the privacy of the individual, lost it a bit when on one occasion the spoon came out empty, and hit the machine hard in demand for raisins that did not arrive.
