Russia confirmed that Western allegations about Russia's attempts to restore areas of influence in the world through its security proposals aim to cover up Western expansionist intentions and seek to create an imaginary enemy.

The Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko said in an interview with the Russian newspaper Kommersant today, “Russia rejects the allegations of Western officials and their media in this regard. It is clear to everyone, including the ordinary citizen, that the expansionist project of NATO is linked to two geopolitical tasks, the first is the creation of a zone of influence,” RIA Novosti news agency reported. and expanding them, and the second is the search for a supposed enemy, and in order to justify these two tasks, they accuse Russia of working to restore areas of influence, and in fact they themselves seek to create and expand these areas as much as possible.
Grushko explained that representatives of NATO and the European Union, for example, are constantly making statements about areas "that Russia and China should not be allowed" to enter, and this was said with regard to Afghanistan immediately after the withdrawal of US forces and its allies, as well as about the Western Balkans, although logic and common sense completely rule out that Russia, which It enjoys historical good-neighbourly relations with the countries of this region that pose a threat to some party, but on the contrary, it constitutes an additional factor for stability and security.
Grushko said, "Our proposals are a call to sound thinking...to activate the mind and to take the required steps objectively to remove the current security situation from the danger line," adding, "If we decide to conduct an experiment and organize a public opinion poll in any city in Western Europe and ask the respondents for their views who are somewhat interested. With the problems of war and peace, commenting on the Russian proposals, I am sure that the citizens who have not been poisoned by Western propaganda will support them.” We do not threaten anyone with our proposals and wait for an honest response to them.
