It is already official that self-isolation for infected people will be shorter.

But even a second "Freedom Day" in England is to be considered - later this month.

London – In Great Britain, people infected with corona should no longer have to isolate themselves.

This is reported by the British newspaper

The Telegraph

.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson's government is reacting to the falling number of infections.

Officially, the urgent recommendation to avoid social contacts as far as possible should continue to apply to those affected.

In the event of non-compliance, however, there should no longer be any threat of fines or legal action, according to the report.

What is the time frame for these plans?

The

Telegraph

writes of a "development in the coming weeks" and an implementation possibly already in the spring.

Corona in GB: Second “Freedom Day” in UK already on February 26th?

Johnson - plagued by "Partygate" - is planning a whole series of "populist announcements", according to the latest edition of the British

Sunday Times.

This should also include lifting the remaining corona restrictions on January 26, commonly known as “Freedom Day”.

In Great Britain, almost all corona regulations expired on July 19, 2021 before the rules were tightened again because of omicron.

Last week, British Health Minister Sajid Javid announced a shortened quarantine for infected people: in future it will only apply for five days after their positive test.

After two consecutive negative tests, citizens could then leave the quarantine on day 6.

England: End shorter quarantine with PCR or rapid test?

Two-thirds of those infected are no longer contagious by the end of the fifth day, Javid explained.

However, he left open whether PCR or rapid tests must be used.

The highly contagious omicron variant is causing massive staff shortages in many systemically important sectors such as schools and hospitals in Great Britain.

The shortened quarantine is intended to cushion this.

However, Javid's announcement only applied to England.

Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland decide independently on their corona policy and are often stricter.
