Today (Monday), Minister Eli Avidar sharply criticized former Supreme Court President Aharon Barak and his involvement in plea bargaining with opposition leader Benjamin Netanyahu: "Barak carried out an attack on the democratic public trust in the State of Israel, with his support for a plea deal for Netanyahu."
According to Avidar, "I waited for Judge Barak to clarify his position and talk about the issue in principle, but the clarifications were worse than the initial support. That his mouthpieces 'volunteered to drive the D9' that would destroy the Supreme Court. "
"Gentlemen, there is no other definition," Avidar continued.
"Aharon Barak's sweeping support for a dubious plea deal with Netanyahu is an inconceivable attack on democracy and Netanyahu's smug face at his lawyer's house last night, says everything."

It was Netanyahu who turned to Barak for mediation between him and Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit, in order to formulate a plea deal in his case.
Barak hesitated and agreed, and was told that he was complete with his consent.
For the purpose of the move, Netanyahu sent lawyer Michael Ravillo to persuade Barak.
It was also learned that this is the third round of explorations between the parties in preparation for the conclusion of a deal.
The contacts, it was reported, began as early as 2019.
At the end of the week, Ben Caspit revealed on the Maariv Online website the news of the existence of secret contacts between Attorney General Mandelblit and the State Attorney's Office and the former prime minister in an effort to reach a plea deal.
The secrecy of the contacts was intended to prevent embarrassment from Netanyahu, who has previously stated that he will not agree to a plea deal because he is convinced of his ability to prove his innocence.
