Which passport gives you the most freedom to travel?

A new ranking reveals who is currently at the top – while the German passport is falling.

The "more powerful" a passport, the more freedom its owner enjoys when jetting around the world.

Because it enables, for example, entry into many countries without a visa or one can be applied for and issued quickly after arrival.

The German passport has also repeatedly secured a good position in the ranking of the "most powerful passports"* in recent years.

But in 2022 he will be overtaken by another.

The Most Powerful Passport: This country takes the lead

The consulting firm Arton Capitol maintains a "passport index" that regularly reviews and ranks states' visa requirements.

The Global Passport Power Rank 2022 compared 199 countries and territories to find out which passport offers the most benefits.

It turns out that the

United Arab Emirates

issue the most powerful passport.

Holders of it can travel to 160 countries – 106 of them without a visa and 54 with a “visa on arrival”.

Another passport ranking places Germany in second place

Another well-known passport ranking is the

Henley Passport Index

.

According to his current version, the passports of Japan and Singapore offer the most freedom to travel, because entry without a visa in advance is possible in 192 countries.

Germany shares second place with South Korea: Entry into 190 countries is possible here.

The differences in the rankings result from the different approaches to the evaluation.

While the Henley Passport Index is based on data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), Arton Capitol's Global Passport Power Rank is based on official government information.
