With the shortening of the convalescent status from six to three months, other MPs in the Bundestag – primarily from the AfD – will probably soon have to switch to the stands.
Group leader Alice Weidel, for example, says she is not vaccinated and was infected with the corona virus in November.
As a spokesman said when asked on Monday, her recovered status is valid until the beginning of February.
"She will then take a seat in the stands," he added.
It is currently not possible to say how many AfD MPs will also be affected by the shortened duration of the convalescent status.
2G Plus in the Bundestag
Stricter corona rules have been in force in the Bundestag since last week, against which the AfD is considering a lawsuit: MPs are now only allowed to enter the plenary hall if they have been vaccinated twice - or have recovered - and can also present a current negative rapid test result.
Exceptions are boosted.
As before, parliamentarians who do not meet these 2G-plus requirements can only follow the plenary sessions from the visitors' gallery.
In future, however, they will have to present a negative rapid test result.
Self-tests are not accepted.
The AfD had voted against changes to the corona rules in parliament.
The other groups voted for the changes to 2G-plus rules in the plenary hall.
The recovered status in Germany is now only valid for three months.
A spokesman for the Ministry of Health said on Monday in Berlin that the Robert Koch Institute was making recommendations and had also made this known on its website.
"The new recommendation, which has been in effect since Friday (...) says that you have a three-month recovered status."
The determination was made from a scientific point of view.
The background is that due to the prevailing omicron variant, there is a much greater risk of becoming ill after this time or of being a carrier.
Weidel called the step on Twitter “scientifically not justifiable”.
